Transitioning to Independent Consulting - Are you ready to take the leap?
I met a senior transformation leader for coffee this week who is thinking about taking the leap from running major technology transformation programs into independent consulting.
It is something I hear a lot from senior professionals right now.
And honestly, the market timing could not be better. ERP programs, PMO buildouts, finance transformation. Experienced independent consultants are in real demand right now across Melbourne and nationally.
What I find interesting is that the transition conversation almost always comes back to the same thing. Not capability or experience. Positioning.
These are people who have delivered some of the most complex programs in the country. The shift is learning to articulate that value as an individual, not as part of a larger organisation.
The ones who hit the ground running get specific fast. Not transformation broadly, but the precise problem they are best placed to solve. That clarity is what builds a reputation quickly.
The practical side, structure, rate, network, tends to fall into place once that piece is sorted.
If you have made the move recently, I would love to hear what surprised you most. Or if you are thinking about it, feel free to reach out.
